“I pretty much kept it a secret. So friendships weren’t affected much,” she admitted.
“I think I mentally started to feel like I couldn’t hurt myself that way anymore.”
Yumi, who has not had a drink since January 4, 2016, further recalled a horrifying past experience in which she threw up on the side of the road the next day.

“I remember that one time … I bought a round of drinks for everyone and I knew I was completely crushed and I shouldn’t be buying a drink for myself,” she said.
“But the line was so long that I kept thinking, ‘If I’m at the front of the line to buy drinks, I probably need one!’ It was so bad.’
She continued, “I remember the next day my then-husband was driving and I had to get him to stop so I could pull over to the curb. How bad is that? It’s just awful that we think people live their lives like that.’
The 3 p.m. Pick Up presenter added that she’s turned to social groups that aren’t centered around drinking, like running and exercising.

Yumi revealed her surprise new career move during an interview on Today Extra earlier this year.
The media personality announced that she has started a cooking podcast called 5 Minute Food Fix.
Speaking to Today Extra hosts David Campbell and Sylvia Jeffreys, Yumi explained the inspiration behind her new podcast.
“I have four kids and I’ve been busy and working flat out for 20 years, but I still love food very much and I’m a pretty good cook,” she said.
“But I don’t want to be in the kitchen, so I was like, ‘Okay, please, would you like someone else to tell me what to cook for dinner?’ Give me the inspiration!
“So I wanted people to say, ‘Okay, I don’t care, but I have to cook.’ I wanted something to give them.’
