The Pope prays for war refugees in Ukrainian and Russian

Zaluzhnyi, the ‘iron general’ leading Kyiv’s armed forces Last Hour

(ANSA) NEW YORK, APRIL 08 He is the leader of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and is the one who deserves credit for the military victories achieved so far. Valeriy Zaluzhnyi is the Supreme Commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the man who orchestrated and commands the Battle of Kyiv. The 48yearold general, who was born into a military family, was appointed to his current role by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in July 2021, but like many other commanders, Zaluzhnyi has been preparing for a Russian attack since 2014, Politico reports, describing him as one “Iron General”.

Unlike Norman Schwarzkopf, who led American troops in the First Gulf War, or David Petraeus, who presided over the Iraq War and earned the nickname “King David,” Zaluzhnyi has so far avoided posing as a star commander, leaving all the limelight to Zelensky.
