Zelensky warns in Washington about the end of US aid

During a visit to Washington, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urgently warned about the lack of further US military aid to his country.

The delay in this aid is a “dream come true” for Russian leader Vladimir Putin, Zelensky said today in a speech at the National Defense University, in the North American capital. Opposition Republicans in the US Congress have been blocking new aid to Ukraine for weeks.

“Putin has to lose,” Zelensky said in his speech. The US could count on Ukraine – “and we also hope to be able to count on you”. Biden had warned Republicans a few days ago that Putin would not stop his attacks if Russia defeated Ukraine and could even attack a NATO country. Therefore, aid to Ukraine could no longer be delayed.

Meeting with Biden and Congressional representatives

Washington is Kiev's main supporter in the war against invading Russian forces. Since the start of Russia's war of aggression in February 2022, the United States has provided or pledged more than $44 billion in military aid to Ukraine.

Zelenskyy traveled from Buenos Aires to Washington, where he plans to meet with President Joe Biden and top congressional representatives tomorrow. The Ukrainian head of state participated in the inauguration of the new Argentine president, Javier Milei, in the Argentine capital.
