On Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on people all over the world to stand up for Ukraine in squares, streets and schoolyards.
Zelenskyy called for global rallies to begin on Thursday, a month after Russia invaded Ukraine.
“Show your reputation from this day forward. Come out of your offices, your homes, your schools and universities. Come in the name of peace. Come with Ukrainian symbols to support Ukraine, to support freedom, to support life,” Zelenskyy said in English.
“Come to your schoolyards, your streets,” Zelenskyj added. “Say people matter, freedom matters, peace matters, Ukraine matters.”
Since the Russian invasion began, thousands have died and some areas have been devastated by Russian bombs and shells.
The US on Wednesday said Russia had committed war crimes in Ukraine as hospitals, schools and bomb shelters were attacked.
The US and other countries have imposed heavy sanctions on Russia while arming Ukraine to fight the invaders.
The war has resulted in more than 3.5 million Ukrainians fleeing the country and more than 6 million displaced within Ukraine.
Public protests against Russia have taken place across Europe for the past month, while protests in Russia have been met with violence and mass arrests.
