Zelenskyy believes in early EU membership news

Following the visit of EU foreign ministers to Kiev, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his confidence in his country’s early accession to the EU.

“We all know that it is only a matter of time before Ukraine becomes a member of the EU,” Zelensky said in his evening video speech. Then, referring to the visit of diplomats from the 27 EU states, he added: “So the meeting has already taken place in the EU.”

Ukraine, which has been defending itself against Russia’s war of aggression for more than 19 months, has had EU candidate status since the summer of 2022. Zelensky emphasized that his country’s aim was to begin accession negotiations this year. He promised that Ukraine would meet all demands made by the EU Commission.
