The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy (photo)said this Tuesday (11) that it would be “absurd” if the Nato Do not offer the candidacy to your country.
On Twitter, the Ukrainian leader said that uncertainty about the country’s membership in the military alliance was a motivation for Russia to “continue its terror.”
“It’s unprecedented and absurd if the deadline is set neither for the invitation nor for the accession of Ukraine. At the same time, vague words are added about “conditions” even for Ukraine’s invitation. There seems to be no willingness to either invite Ukraine into NATO or make it a member of the alliance.“, he explained.
“This means that a window remains open to negotiate Ukraine’s NATO membership in the negotiations with Russia. And for Russia it means motivation to continue its terror.“, he added.
Given US resistance to Ukraine’s NATO entry, Zelenskyy is pushing for an invitation from the military alliance.
The heads of state and government of the organization’s member countries meet today in Lithuania to consider the accession of Sweden and Ukraine. However, the opening of Kiev’s candidacy is expected to be postponed to avoid the risk of a stronger reaction from Moscow.
