This is the first visit by the Ukrainian President to this city, one of the most important in Ukraine and the only regional capital that the Russians have been able to militarily control in the nearly nine months since Russia invaded the country.

Yermak posted on his Twitter account images of the flag-raising ceremony in Kherson’s central square, where the city’s administrative buildings are located, until two days ago in the hands of the Russian army.

After the country’s anthem was played and before an emotional Zelensky, one of the soldiers present raised the Ukrainian national flag. “It’s impossible to kill Ukraine,” said Volodymyr Zelensky during the crime (11/14/2022).

Zelenskyi announced on November 11 that the city of Kherson was back under Ukrainian control after Russian troops decided to withdraw to the other side of the Dnieper River, which acts as a natural border between the region’s north and south.

A day later, the Office of the President of Ukraine said that the head of the Kherson regional military administration, Yaroslav Yanushevich, employees of the National Police and Security Service of Ukraine had already started work in the city and other areas of the region that had also been liberated .

Kherson, occupied by the Russians on March 2, was one of the Ukrainian regions, along with neighboring Zaporizhia and eastern Donetsk and Lugansk, to be annexed by Russia, although Moscow never managed to gain complete military control over these to obtain territories.

Klemlin assured that the withdrawal of her troops to the other bank of the Dnieper was due to a reorganization of the front and a change of strategy in the invasion that began on February 24.

Meanwhile, the Kiev government fears that Russian soldiers could still attack the capital, Kherson, from across the river and has urged the population not to return to the area until it is completely safe from the mines left behind by the Russians.
