Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke after Ukraine’s triumph in the 2022 Song Contest and wants to host the ESC in his country next year.
After his triumph at the 66th Eurovision Song Contest, Oleh Psiuk, vocalist of the Kalush Orchestra, was confident that ESC 2023 will take place in his home country: “I am sure that next year Ukraine will see Europe in a new way, a united and happy Ukraine will be welcomed.” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also spoke after his country’s triumph.
Zelenskyy on ESC victory: “Our courage impresses the world”
“Our courage impresses the world, our music conquers Europe! Next year Ukraine will host Eurovision! For the third time in our history,” Zelenskyy said on Telegram. He believes this will not be the last victory.
Oleh Psiuk, who turns 28 on Monday, emphasized in Turin after his group’s victory that he and the band are also on a mission across the country: “Ukrainian culture is under attack. And we are here to prove that this Ukrainian culture is alive and beautiful.”
From Song Contest to War: “In Two Days We Will Return to Ukraine”
That is why they will soon return to the country, which has been hit by the Russian war of aggression and from which sane men can only leave with a special government authorization: “Our special authorization expires in two days. And in two days we will be returning to Ukraine.”
At the moment he cannot say what the near future will bring for the band. Just that: “Like every Ukrainian, we are ready to fight as best we can. Until the end.”
