The New Orleans Pelicans are gearing up for a play-in game against the LA Clippers that will decide the fate of their season. However, the fate of her future rests with Zion Williamson. His foot injury made him sit out.
The Pelicans and Williamson disagree on the severity of his injury, according to ESPN’s Andrew Lopez. New Orleans seems to be playing it safe even if Williamson is healthy enough to throw a 360-degree dunk.
According to multiple sources, there is currently a disagreement between the Pelicans and Williamson over whether he is healthy enough to play. The team claim the bone in Williamson’s foot hasn’t healed enough to speak.
Lopez added that Williamson’s condition worries remain. He added that the Pelicans star is now closer to his usual playing weight and addressed those concerns as he recovered in Portland.
When he appeared to the media the day before the season, he looked well over his reported playing weight of 285 pounds.
Sources have told ESPN that Williamson is closer to his game weight than he was at the time. Part of what he did in Portland was to condition as much as possible while avoiding putting too much weight on his recovering foot.
New Orleans approached playoff contention without Williamson, who was an All-Star last season and averaged 27.0 points per game. His future with the team is far from stable, even if the team is in control of its contract situation for the near future. Disagreements over his injury will only fuel his desire to call for a trade.
