Zoë Kravitz was turned down as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises because she was “too urban”.

Starring Robert Pattinson as the superhero and Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, which he plays, The Batman is currently dominating the box office.

Kravitz, 33, was praised for playing the sultry villainess, but she recently revealed that this was her second turn down for the role.

“I don’t know if it came directly from Chris Nolan,” Kravitz said. “I think it was probably some casting director or casting director’s assistant.”

She recalled, “Being a woman of color and being an actress, and at the time I was told that I couldn’t read because of the color of my skin, and the word ‘urban’ that was thrown around was what it really was. hard about this moment.

Directed by Nolan, Anne Hathaway ended up playing the role of Catwoman.

The casting team may now have some regret that Kravitz finally got the part a decade later.

In the opening weekend, the likes of Taylor Swift took to social media to praise her performance in the action movie.

On Sunday morning, the 32-year-old singer posted to her Instagram story a snapshot of Kravitz at the theater as Selina Kyle, also known as Catwoman.

She also tagged Kravitz in her post, calling her “the catwoman of my dreams” and calling the Batman movie itself “phenomenal.”

Swift is far from the first to praise Batman, which received an 85% fresh rating from 364 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

The film also easily became the highest-grossing film of the year, grossing $128.5 million in its opening weekend.

Batman has already surpassed the only other $100 million film of the year, Sony’s Uncharted Cards, which earned $100.2 million in three weeks in theaters.

The Batman film, directed by Matt Reeves, also received acclaim overseas, with an estimated foreign gross of $120 million and a global opening weekend gross of $248.5 million.

The film follows Batman (Robert Pattinson) as he defends Gotham City from crime for a second year when she crosses paths with the mysterious Catwoman (Kravitz).

It’s also the only second pandemic-era film to cross the $100 million mark in a single weekend, a feat first achieved by Spider-Man: No Way Home, which opened last December with a historic $260 million.

The film’s release in Russia was noticeably canceled at the last minute following the invasion of Ukraine.

The film also remains unreleased in China, one of the world’s largest markets, and will debut on March 14.
