There is excitement in Chicago, where authorities on Monday searched for a 23-year-old man suspected of involvement in the murders of eight people.
“We are looking for a suspect named Romeo Nance,” 23, who lived a short distance from the two houses where the bodies were found, said Bill Evans, police chief in the southeastern city of Joliet, west of Chicago.
The police departments of Will County and the city of Joliet, who do not yet know the motive for this tragedy, stated that the wanted suspect knew the victims, but it is not known whether they belonged to the same family.
The victims were found in three different locations on Sunday and Monday, including seven in two residences in Joliet, the New York Post reported, noting that a man was also injured in Joliet on Sunday.
“I've been a police officer for 29 years and this is probably the worst crime scene I've ever been associated with,” Evans said at a news conference Monday night, adding that the investigation is still ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding these murders.
Joliet police and the Will County Sheriff's Office shared the suspect's photo as well as his vehicle, a red Toyota Camry, that was at the scene of the two shootings on Facebook, the New York tabloid added.
