Valve bans 40,000 cheaters with a very interesting strategy

Here’s what the company posted on the game’s official blog on Wednesday: “Today we permanently banned over 40,000 accounts that have been using third-party software to cheat in Dota over the past few weeks. This software was able to access information used internally by the Dota client that was not visible during normal play, giving the scammer an unfair advantage.”

A very interesting strategy by Valve to ban cheaters
Banning cheaters isn’t always easy, and yet Valve seems to have found one hell of a trick which works very well. To catch the scammers, Valve simply turned the cheat on them. Since Cheaters could see data normally hidden from normal players, they simply added additional data that is also invisible for normal players. However, anyone using this new cheat would have access to this data, and only they. Valve then just has to ban anyone for life reading that data and that’s it.
Valve explains that they wanted to set an example with this ban wave and the result seems pretty convincing!
