50 firefighters extinguish a fire on Cartier Avenue

After battling the fire on Johnny-Parent Boulevard, Quebec City Fire Protection Service firefighters rushed to the scene on Avenue Cartier to battle another fire around 5:34 a.m.

A fire broke out in the rear of a four-story apartment building.

“The fire quickly spread through the rear galleries into the attic. Several nozzles and openings in the roof were necessary to contain the fire,” explains Quebec Fire Protection Service (SPCIQ) spokesperson Alexandre Lajoie.

Because the building is adjacent to similar buildings on both sides, additional personnel were required to ensure the fire did not spread to the other buildings. Around 50 firefighters were on duty.

No one was injured in the fire, but residents will not be able to return to their homes any time soon due to the damage caused by the water.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, but there is no evidence that the fire is of a criminal nature. The Quebec City Fire Commissioner will continue to investigate.
