The death of actor Ilya São Paulo at the age of 59 in Rio de Janeiro was touched by the media, fans and colleagues from the artistic class with whom he starred in soap operas such as Irmão’s Coragem (1995) and Amor de Mãe ( 2019).
The tragedy was reminiscent of the early departure of another household name in acting: Irving São Paulo, Ilya’s brother. Both were children of the late film director Olney São Paulo.
Irving died in 2006 at the age of 41 from multiple organ failure secondary to pancreatitis. Interestingly, he died in 1978 at the same age as her father.
On television, Irving has appeared in soap operas such as A História de Ana Raio e Zé Trovão (1990) from the extinct Rede Manchete and global Mulheres de Areia (1993) and A Viagem (1994). He is particularly known for the latter, where rocker Zeca, Lisa’s (Andrea Beltrão) brother, lived.
Interestingly, when the actor died on August 10, 2006, Globo had just finished a repeat of A Viagem in the Vale a Pena Ver de Novo session, prompting the media to take a closer look at the tragedy.
This caused a special upheaval in Brother Ilya. He became angry at the presence of reporters and cameramen at his brother’s wake and even attacked some of them.
“You bloodsuckers, vermin!” he roared at the time, angered that the media hadn’t shown the same interest in Irving when he was alive and in need of opportunities in the artistic world.
