Eddie McGuire will return to the commentary box this year, calling up select matches for 3AW radio station, the Herald Sun has reported.

The 58-year-old star, who retired from his Fox Footy role last year, will be behind the mic part-time.

McGuire told the publication on Sunday: “I started Triple M Football, it was a big time in my life and lately I’ve been calling on the TV a bit but I’ve always enjoyed calling on the radio.”

“I won’t be on the phone a lot this year because I’ve got a lot going on, but it’s nice to just keep my hands on it and there are a couple of weeks that are penciled in. ‘

McGuire will also continue to host Footy Classified and start a podcast with Jimmy Bartel.

It comes after McGuire quit as a frontman at Fox Footy last year after being the face of the coverage.

McGuire also resigned as President of Collingwood Football Club in 2021.

On his 34th birthday in 1998, he became President of Collingwood.

The Magpies have lost four AFL major finals in that span and broke through a 20-year drought to win a Premiership in 2010.

He was forced to step down as President of Collingwood after the release of the Do Better report, which found systemic racism had been going on within the football club for years.

In 2021, the TV host also ended his tenure on Triple M’s The Hot Breakfast show after 11 years on the air.

“It’s also time for me to end a wonderful 11-year run with a 4 o’clock alarm clock,” Eddie told listeners at the time.

“This year has been a year like no other for all of us. We were able to broadcast six hours a day and weekends when COVID-19 hit. While it has been exhausting, it has been a true honor and joy for us to be with Melbourne every step of the way and the most important year in our show’s history.’

“I plan to take some time to reflect and recharge with my family and after a good, long break, take a look at what the next project for Triple M looks like in 2021, building on new territory that we trod in 2009.”
