The first shop to offer watch customization experiences in VRChat

TOKYO, Oct. 3, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Casio Computer Co., Ltd. today announced the launch of a Metaverse-based virtual store for the G-SHOCK line of shock-resistant watches. The new store will open on October 6, 2023 on the virtual reality social platform VRChat and will offer visitors personalized experiences and more.

In recent years, more and more young users have created avatars (virtual personalities), explored virtual spaces and communicated with each other in the metaverse.

In response, Casio is opening a virtual G-SHOCK STORE, described as a universe within the metaverse, to foster a culture focused on equipping avatars with watches, building on the strong support G-SHOCK has received due to its Shock resistance enjoyed by users and unique patterns. Casio has signed a partnership agreement with VRChat Inc., operator of the world’s largest social virtual reality platform VRChat. This is the first time a watch manufacturer has provided access to a universe (virtual space) in VRChat.

The G-SHOCK STORE virtual universe offers a watch customization service that allows users to combine different accessories to create their own personalized G-SHOCK watches, and see what their avatars look like with the watches they create. Additionally, users can purchase watch parts as digital items for use in VRChat from the official Casio online store at BOOTH, a global online hub promoting creative efforts to create virtual G-SHOCK watches worn by their avatars in G-SHOCK can be STORE and other VRChat universes. These virtual clocks are set to the time of the user’s location, allowing checking the time in VRChat.
