Inside the Most Embarrassing Influencer Failures of 2023: From Sophie Guidolin Leaking Confidential Details to Skye Wheatley Damaging Her $120,000 Mercedes-Benz

They are stars of the internet who have made millions from their social media following.

But some of Australia's most popular influencers have suffered embarrassing failures throughout the year.

In May, former Big Brother star Skye Wheatley suffered an Instagram glitch while attempting to film a “Garbage Night Hack” video for her social media channels.

She shared a clip of herself driving her $120,000 black Mercedes-Benz into her driveway, holding onto a trash can with one hand and trying to “lazy” it back onto the road and back on to carry off the street.

But Skye didn't expect the trash can to hit her flashy car and ring the doorbell.

After the incident, the mother-of-two shared a picture of the damage to her fancy car and said she had “banned” herself from ever buying a luxury car again.

Sophie Guidolin was also recently involved in a social media scandal.

The fitness influencer was called out by Instagram detective account Dutch Minty in June after she accidentally revealed intimate details on social media.

The 34-year-old posted a photo of her laptop screen as she sat in bed on her Instagram Stories.

But an email address, a cover letter and a potential employee's work history were clearly visible on the screen.

“Waiting for room service, working and then taking a bath before the big day tomorrow,” she captioned the post.

Dutch Minty captioned her discovery: “This is what I love in a boss! Someone who shares my email address, cover letter and previous place of employment.”

Sydney influencer Sopha Dopha made a humiliating mistake during an interview at the 2023 TikTok Awards earlier this month.

The 19-year-old, whose real name is Sophia Begg, was sitting in the audience when presenter Tony Armstrong approached her for an on-camera interview.

Sophia bizarrely told the 34-year-old TV presenter to stop flirting with her – even though he has a girlfriend.

'How do you feel? “You look thrilled and I'm thrilled for you,” Tony said as he turned to Sophia, who was nominated for the Creator of the Year award.

'Thank you very much. Wow! Stop flirting with me!' Sophia responded, sparking scattered laughter from the audience.

“I had a tough start this week, mate. “I don't know if you heard the news…” Tony replied, referring to his new relationship with girlfriend Rona Glynn-McDonald.

The audience roared with laughter as Tony continued: “That wasn't flirting, that was flattery.”

Visibly embarrassed, Sophia covered her mouth with a hand before finally composing herself and replying, “No, thank you. I'm happy to be here.”

Sydney-based influencer Suzan Mutesi was also humiliated when her car battery died at Australian Fashion Week in May.

The 36-year-old, who is accused of buying off much of her 1.2 million Instagram followers, was devastated when she missed an important off-site fashion show because of her $27,000 Mazda 3 refused to start.

Well-heeled attendees watched in shock as a visibly distressed Mutesi tried to revive her car, her frustration increasing with each failed attempt to start the engine.

The influencer's plight quickly became the spectacle of the day, with all eyes on the scene – a stark contrast to the haute couture on the catwalk.

The dramatic scene reached its climax when an NRMA truck pulled up to the venue, attracting the curious and sympathetic looks of the fashionable crowd.

A roadside attendant was busy replacing her car's battery while Mutesi waited helplessly on the side of the road.
