It is 120 meters long and can transport at least 13 heavy tanks as well as two helicopters and a battalion of special attack troops (300 men) in full equipment: Here is the new landing ship Pyotr Morgunov, with which Russia replaces the Novocherkassk in the Black Sea The night of December 26th was put out of action by a Ukrainian attack in the port of Feodosia on the east coast of the Crimean peninsula.

The brand new Ivan Gren-class Pyotr Morgunov set sail from Novorossiysk on the eastern coast of the Black Sea, then docked in the port of Sevastopol, the main base on the Crimean peninsula, to reaffirm that the Moscow fleet does not shy away from Kiev ingenuity.

The ship was commissioned on December 23, 2020 and until recently was stationed on the edge of the Black Sea areas most affected by Ukraine's invasion. It has a crew of around one hundred sailors, displaces 6,600 tons and can park in its hold 13 tanks or 36 IFVs (Infractory Fighting Vehicles), armored vehicles designed to transport infantrymen. For defense, two 30 mm AK-630M-2 cannons and two AK-630 cannons of the same caliber are used. Two helicopters, two Ka-29 helicopters and Orlan-10 drones are used for reconnaissance and troop transport.

However, Western analysts believe that the deployment of the new landing ship is not enough to restart the Russian offensive on the Black Sea side. Ukraine's resounding success in attacking the even more imposing Novocherkassk with cruise missiles, although older, does not allow Russian admirals and even fewer crews to sleep peacefully.
