The Remparts let a good lead slip away

The Quebec Remparts had a chance to record a third straight win for the first time this season, but a drop in intensity in the final 40 minutes of play led to a 5-3 loss to the Blainville Armada-Boisbriand Sports Rousseau on Friday night .

The visitors quickly piled on the pressure by scoring three goals in the first period. The Red Devils persistently chased Édouard Gauthier out of the game after 20 minutes.

Antoine Dorion, Julien Béland and Charles-Olivier Villeneuve hit the target, but a shadow seemed to be looming on the horizon. Xavier Villeneuve and Mathis Cloutier – the latter with 32 seconds left in the third – reduced the gap.

As they left the locker room, the armada regrouped in front of the net, which was now defended by Olivier Ciarlo, and didn't allow anything more. The Remparts only got eight shots in the second period and three in the third.

Thomas Paquet, Olivier Lemieux and Justin Carbonneau delighted the crowd, who shook the ropes in the final third. Eliot Ogonowski was his team's best with three assists.

The Remparts are still unable to get out of the basement of the Eastern Association standings due to their 34 points in 43 games. With their victory, the Armada climbed to fifth place in the West, ahead of the Shawinigan Cataractes.

Éric Veilleux's men return to the Videotron Center on Sunday to face the best team in the West, the Voltigeurs de Drummondville.
