Dior: What to remember from the Spring/Summer 2024 Haute Couture show – Paris Match

As soon as the fall-winter 2024-2025 men's fashion week ends, it gives way to the spring-summer 2024 haute couture week.

This Monday, January 22nd, Maria Grazia Chiuri unveiled her Dior collection in the gardens of the Rodin Museum, in the heart of the seventh arrondissement of Paris. French-style alleys and open-air sculptures… The perfect setting to bring together the hottest celebrities.

Rihanna makes her big return to the front row

This is undoubtedly the most unexpected event of this fashion week… On this first day of Spring/Summer 2024 Haute Couture Fashion Week, Rihanna made her comeback in the front row of the Dior show. An appearance that unleashed the photographers and guests who did not hesitate to compete for the hope of the Grail: a photo of “Riri”, dressed all in black, with a cap screwed on his head and a Lady Dior bag at the end her gloved fingers.

It must be said that the Barbadian superstar, who gave birth to his second child in August 2023, had not attended a fashion show since June 20, the date of Pharrell Williams' first show for Louis Vuitton.

Anya Taylor-Joy, Dior ambassador, Kelly Rutherford, the iconic interpreter of Lily Van Der Woodsen from “Gossip Girl”, Glenn Close, Natalie Portman, Carla Bruni, Juliette Armanet, Juliette Binoche, Lætitia Casta, Deva Cassel, the Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki, who plays Lady Diana in season 6 of “The Crown”… Next to “Riri” at Dior, the shower of stars was impressive.

The new generation Lady Dior look

The bar suit, the double-breasted jacket and the pleated skirt in gray wool, the La Cigale dress designed by Christian Dior for autumn-winter 1952 and the real thread of this line called “Big Aura”… Throughout the entire fashion show was Maria Grazia Chiuri thereby n has stopped (re)experiencing the archives of the house and the excellence of the know-how of its workshops in contemporary variations. Cutwork that accentuates the curves, a sense of ultimate detail that enhances the silhouettes: an architectural elegance that is, quite simply, Dior's signature.

Some dresses in black velvet enhance the look, others in beige fabric echo the easy-chic codes of the trench coat (large collar that falls on the shoulders, wide belt)… When the majority of the 59 passages reveal a palette of neutral tones – Sand, gold, black, burgundy and navy – others appear on the runway as a promise of a sunny season, like this long slip dress in bronze silk velvet pan. Or this evening ensemble of blouse and long skirt with raised celadon embroidery that sounds like a gentle call of the sea.

A delicate black line under the eyes. The hair is put up in braided buns and tied with a thin velvet ribbon. Necklaces and white pearl earrings. Pretty satin shoes, flat or wedge heels and sometimes covered in sequins… Maria Grazia Chuiri also creates a chic and delicate look when it comes to beauty and accessories.

With the installation of Italian visual artist and writer Isabella Ducrot on the walls, Dior's Spring/Summer 2024 Haute Couture collection was unveiled. The program featured 23 oversized dresses, each about five meters high, arranged on a composition of irregular black bands reminiscent of weft and warp. A setting reminiscent of the clothing of the Ottoman Sultans Isabella Ducrot in Istanbul. According to the House of Dior: “Here the aura that accompanies the disproportionate clothing of these superhuman beings is gigantic, precisely to elevate the person who wears it to a semi-divine level with its imposing and fascinating presence.” »
