Naomi Watts reveals why she stormed down the aisle to Billy Crudup's surprise courthouse wedding: 'We were really excited'

Naomi Watts has revealed she rushed to the altar with her husband Billy Crudup last year because they were “thrilled”.

The actors decided to have a courthouse wedding in New York last June, and the 55-year-old and her partner, also 55, couldn't wait.

“It just happened,” she said on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon at the no-frills ceremony.

“We knew we wanted to do it, it was something we really wanted to do and do quickly. It's an efficient way to do it.”

She added: “It was really beautiful.” It was a classic New York day. You met all sorts of people, some dressed to the nines, others coming and going quickly.

“It was very special and unforgettable.”

The British-Australian actress was married to American The Morning Show star in June last year.

Naomi posted a photo of herself and her new husband posing on the steps of what looked like a Manhattan courthouse shortly after getting married, adding the caption: “Hitched.”

Naomi looked stunning in a $7,400 white Oscar de la Renta Sweetheart Water Lilly Guipure gown alongside her actor husband, who currently stars on “The Morning Show.”

The Mulholland Drive star wore her short blonde hair curled and parted to the side and accessorized her look with open-toed pumps, a diamond necklace and a gold wedding ring.

New York-born Billy, meanwhile, was dressed in a dark blue suit and looked stunning with his clean-shaven face and dramatically slicked-back salt and pepper shaggy hair.

After the ceremony, Naomi shared a photo of the bride and groom celebrating with actor Mark Ruffalo and his wife Sunrise Coigney.

The famously secretive couple previously sparked marriage rumors after they were spotted in wedding attire in photos obtained by PageSix.

Naomi first sparked rumors that she and Billy were engaged earlier this year when she debuted a huge tasteful marquise-cut diamond along with a diamond-encrusted ring.

She added:

However, the star refused to confirm engagement chatter, even after American Today show host Hoda Kotb directly referenced it during an appearance on the morning talk show in late April.

The “King Kong” star appeared to have worn the ring at least as early as March, and she was spotted showing off the sparkler on the red carpet at the 2023 Vanity Fair Oscar party in Beverly Hills.

Naomi and Billy met on the set of her 2017 Netflix series Gypsy, in which she starred as a therapist who, under a pseudonym, forms close (and unethical) relationships with people close to her patients, while Crudup hers Husband played.

The co-stars later began dating in 2017, a year after Naomi split from her partner of 11 years, actor Liev Schreiber.

The ex-partners, who are friends, share two children: Kai, 15, and Sasha, 16.
