Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell knows full well that his decisions will be criticized on the verge of his team's loss in the National Association finals.
On Sunday, the Michigan club decided to keep the offense on the field rather than attempt a field goal on a four-down situation, twice in the second half of a one-on-one matchup against the San Francisco 49ers .
The Lions failed in both attempts and ultimately lost 34 to 31.

“I don’t regret those decisions,” Campbell said during postgame press conferences. It's difficult because we failed. It didn’t work, but I don’t regret it.”
“I understand that I will be criticized. It’s part of the job.”
The Lions were in control of the game against the 49ers, who led 24-7 at halftime. Detroit blew the largest lead in the history of a national final.
“It’s like having your heart ripped out,” Campbell said. It's tough.”
After the game, several players came to their head coach's defense, including running back David Montgomery, who said Campbell was “the best coach in the league.”
The Lions had a fantastic 2023 season. They finished first in the Northern Section of the National Team with a record of 12-5. This marked the first time they took part in the playoffs since 2016 and the first time since 1991 that they experienced the joy of winning a game without tomorrow.
However, Detroit still has to wait to participate in its first Super Bowl game. The team has never had this chance since the inception of this prestigious duel in 1966.
