Nearly a quarter (22%) of Quebec adults have bought or sold virtual currency, also known as “cryptocurrency,” according to a NETendances survey released Wednesday by Laval University’s Academy of Digital Transformation (ATN).

The results of the survey show that the percentage of adults in Quebec who have already bought or sold virtual currency is 43% for respondents aged 25-34 and 47% for those aged 35-44.
Awareness of cryptocurrency is higher among men (82%) who are more familiar with this virtual currency than women (60%).
Adults under the age of 55, college graduates, and those with combined annual family income of $100,000 or more know more about the topic.
More and more young people are using mobile banking apps
The survey also shows that half (49%) of Quebec adults who own mobile devices have used their financial institution’s mobile app to deposit a check sent from a photo in the past 12 months.
Mobile deposit usage is more pronounced among Quebecers aged 25-44, a group where this proportion reaches 65%. In general, about 45% of Quebecers use mobile payment on their smartphone. This use reaches 83% among 18-24 year olds, 74% among 25-34 year olds and 67% among 35-44 year olds.
A majority of respondents prefer to use the Internet to check their account balance and conduct transactions (73%), conduct banking transactions such as bill payments and transfers (71%), compare offers from financial institutions (60%), buy or sell stocks (54th %) or to purchase a credit card (50%). The survey was conducted between May 4th and May 30th, 2022 with 1,027 adults.
