MADRID, Nov 2 (EUROPA PRESS) –

More than 140 Cuban migrants have arrived in Florida, United States, by sea in eight different landings in the past 48 hours, the US Border Patrol (USBP) said in a statement.

A total of 144 Cubans have crossed the Florida Straits on rafters and have been made available to US authorities, who must now decide whether they can remain in the country or be sent back to Cuba.

“During the past 48 hours, 101 Cuban immigrants have been taken into custody by US Border Patrol. Agents, along with the support of law enforcement partners, responded to seven migrant landings in the Florida Keys,” USBP Patrol Chief Walter Slosar said in a first statement

Hours later, Slosar reported that another 43 Cubans had been found after landing in “a rustic boat.”

According to the United States, more than 1,100 people tried to leave Cuba by sea and were intercepted at sea by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) in October, according to the Asere newspaper.
