A celebratory meal for several homeless women in Montreal –

The “Brunch des Reines”, an initiative of the organization “La Rue des Femmes”, allowed several women experiencing homelessness to gather for a celebratory meal on Sunday.

Around ten volunteers are on site to support these women in precarious situations.

The day of celebration allows several homeless people to experience a moment of “celebration,” according to the president of the board of directors of “La Rue des Femmes,” Sophie Lemieux.

“It is an event, like all holidays, that commemorates celebrations with family. These are events where we are together, but where we can also take a break from everyday life.”

Given the increasing number of women living on the streets, the NPO is increasing its initiatives to help them.

One of these is the provision of a bracelet, the “Danielle Bracelet,” which allows homeless women to feel safer.

Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante was present at the event to highlight the community organization's work.

The latter is sad about the increasing number of homeless people in the metropolis.

“There is a whole range of hidden homelessness, particularly when it comes to women. “Women often don’t want to end up in a camp,” she said, adding that the resources that help them are “extremely valuable support.”
