A game between the Red Wings and the Blue Jackets

A game between the Red Wings and the Blue Jackets at the Ohio State Buckeyes stadium?

The National Hockey League (NHL) is planning more outdoor games in the coming years, and one of them is expected to take place at the home stadium of one of the most prestigious college football teams in the United States.

According to “The Hockey News” magazine, there could be a duel between the Columbus Blue Jackets at the Ohio State Buckeyes’ stadium – Ohio Stadium – next season. The meeting would see the team, currently led by head coach Pascal Vincent, face the Detroit Red Wings around March 1, 2025. However, the information still needs to be confirmed by the NHL for now.

Such an event would be a nod to the rivalry between the Buckeyes and the Michigan Wolverines within the NCAA. Since NHL away games began, the Jackets have never been invited to participate. The Wings, for their part, played outdoors four times.

Ohio State Stadium can accommodate more than 100,000 people for football games. A few weeks ago, the NHL confirmed that the 2025 Winter Classic will take place at Wrigley Field, where the Chicago Blackhawks will face the St. Louis Blues.
