Tourism Minister Caroline Proulx announced this during a press conference on Monday morning.
The new solid and rigid roof will have a lifespan of fifty years and will include a transparent glass ring.
“This distinctive element will become the largest window to the sky in Montreal, allowing the facility to be flooded with natural light or to offer the public a view of the starry night, honoring the idea of its designer, Mr. Roger Taillibert,” said the minister's office in a press release.
The Government considers that this work “[redonneront] “This emblem of Quebec is expected to reach its full potential” and generate an economic spinoff of nearly $1.5 billion over 10 years.
“Our government wants the Olympic Stadium to once again become a positive symbol for the metropolis and for all of Quebec. Replacing your roof means ensuring its operation all year round, creating new opportunities for holding trade fairs, trade fairs, conferences, sporting events and major events. […] “After years of hesitation about the future of this monument in Montreal, now is the time to act and leave the people of Quebec with world-class infrastructure,” said Tourism Minister Caroline Proulx.
