A young skateboarder was badly hit by a vehicle downtown

A 22-year-old snowboarder is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle fleeing Montreal’s south-central district Sunday night.

The collision happened around 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of De Lorimier Avenue and Sainte-Catherine Street. According to preliminary findings, the vehicle was traveling south on De Lorimier when it struck the skateboarder crossing the street from east to west.

The 22-year-old suffered serious upper body injuries. He was taken to the hospital where fears are for his life.

The vehicle left the scene before police arrived, said Agent Catherine Chèvrefils, spokeswoman for the Montreal Police Service.

A scene was set up at the scene so investigators could learn more.

Witnesses were also questioned.

Avenue De Lorimier was closed to traffic between René Levesque and De Maisonneuve.

Sainte-Catherine Street was closed off from Cartier Street.
