According to St-Louis, Primeau is not to blame

OTTAWA | A goalkeeper who scores five goals usually doesn't get off to a good start. It's a pretty simple rule. Even though Cayden Primeau wasn't at his best, the game in front of him remained even more chaotic in this 6-2 loss to the Senators.

“It's a bit like our team, we didn't make life easy for our goalkeeper,” said Martin St-Louis. We haven’t played as well as we have lately.”

In his last start against the Flyers in Philadelphia, in a 3-2 shootout loss, Primeau allowed five goals on 37 shots.

Parker Kelly scored the Senators' sixth goal after St. Louis pulled its goalie with just over eight minutes left in the third period and the score was 5-1.

Since the start of the season, Primeau has made seven of his 10 starts on opposing ice. Still, the 24-year-old American has a reasonable 4-5-1 record with a 3.32 GAA and a .900 save percentage.

Too many errors

In the opposing team's locker room at the Canadian Tire Centre, Nick Suzuki spoke of a night where execution was the problem.

“We played an honest first third, but in the second third we were too chaotic and allowed too many excesses,” said the captain. Our execution was not good. The Senators have talent and if you don’t pay attention to details against a team like that, they’re going to pay you.”

“We had just played three good games and had a poor performance tonight. We have to rehabilitate ourselves in Boston on Saturday evening.”

Offensively, Cole Caufield found the back of the net for the fourth game in a row. But in a losing situation, he didn't really feel like talking about his good streak.

“I play the same way, it’s a long season,” he replied. It feels good to score, but I want to win and do more for the team.”
