African Union calls for immediate end to war against Palestinians

In a speech at one of the sessions of the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), AU Supreme Leader Moussa Faki Mahamat reiterated his organization's full support for the cause of the Palestinian people.

Faki Mahamat underlined the African organization's call for immediate implementation of the two-state solution to end the Levant conflict.

The AU joins the call of the entire NAM to achieve compliance with international justice and laws for those fighting for their freedom and dignity.

The official also stated that he reiterated the intention to strengthen regional cooperation and commitment to maintaining security, peace and economic development.

At the same time, we are aware of the challenge posed by ongoing conflicts, terrorism and insecurity in some parts of the continent, he stressed.

NAM's founding fathers preferred to call it a movement rather than an organization to avoid the bureaucratic implications of a charter and reinforce its values as a movement for social and political justice, according to the regional leader.

Many African countries still face the challenges of the scourge of terrorism and its exponential increase, as well as transnational organized crime, which is affecting the development of the continent, he noted.

Reforming global financial, political and economic institutions to achieve greater global equity and justice is a priority for countries in Africa and the Global South, the AU Supreme Leader stressed.

“I ask the NAM to support the efforts of African states to reform the UN Security Council, as Africa's permanent inclusion in this body will contribute to global stability, peace, security and sustainable development,” he said.
