A 27-year-old Toulouse man who had just robbed a supermarket at gunpoint was apparently caught last week enjoying his small haul… at a bar near the crime scene.
As La Dépêche reported on Tuesday, French police were called to an organic food store in Toulouse, in the south of the country, around 2 p.m. last Monday after a person tried to steal the bar's cash register.
However, after being chased away by a store clerk, the man in question attempted his crime again two hours later by brandishing a knife in a large local grocery store.
This time he managed to get his hands on rolls of money worth a total of 120 euros, or more than 175 Canadian dollars, according to French media.
Bad luck, the 27-year-old, who was regularly out and about in the neighborhood, would have been so recognized for his crimes that the authorities would have provided the police with a fairly detailed description.
But they didn't have to go far to handcuff him: the man was reportedly seen taking advantage of his haul to buy beer at the local bar shortly after 6 p.m.
According to La Dépêche, he admitted his crimes after being taken into police custody.
