Beauce: A police pursuit leads to the arrest of a fugitive and a drunk driver

A police chase in Beauce, which ended in a collision, led to the arrest of the suspect, but also of the accident victim, who was driving while intoxicated.

It all started with the arrest of a vehicle around 11:30 p.m. on Route 173 in Sainte-Marie-de-Beauce to check an arrest warrant. When the police returned to their car to look at the driver’s documents, the driver drove away.

“Then a lawsuit was filed. The man was traveling at high speed in a 50 km/h zone. The police therefore had to follow him from a distance at a moderate speed,” explains Béatrice Dorsainville, spokeswoman for the SQ.

The chase, which lasted just over four kilometers, ended at the corner of Rue Notre-Dame, where the suspect’s vehicle collided with a van parked at a traffic light.

Fleeing on foot, the fugitive in his fifties was finally caught a few minutes later. He was injured in the accident and taken to the hospital, but there is no fear for his life.

The driver of the van was also arrested for being unfit to drive. He sustained no injuries,” says Ms. Dorsainville.
