Beverly Hills Cop 4 Gets a New Title and Adds More Stars as the Movie Goes into Production

The re-titled Netflix movie Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley has reportedly entered production, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Taylor Paige alongside Eddie Murphy in the long-awaited sequel.

According to Deadline, the fourth film in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise is finally moving forward as cameras have started rolling for Axel Foley’s sequel. The next part is directed by Mark Molloy from a script by Will Beall. Murphy returns in his title role, producing alongside Jerry Bruckheimer, Chad Oman and Melissa Reid of Jerry Bruckheimer Films.

Movie sequels that took forever

Trying to revive yesterday's classics and create two or six lights in one bottle is not a new trend.  It took a long time - even before the film landscape was filled with franchises and films that were designed to be franchises from the start.  Here are examples of the longest gaps between films.

Charisse Hewitt-Webster and Ray Angelic are both set to serve as executive producers on the new film, which Netflix officially acquired the rights to in 2019. However, the project has been in the works for several years, with an earlier attempt at the fourth franchise entry suffering setbacks and a separate spinoff series that never got off the ground due to fan reactions.

The Beverly Hills Cop franchise started in 1984 with the release of the first film, which was later followed by Beverly Hills Cop 2 in 1987 and Beverly Hills Cop 3 in 1994. The films grossed a total of $712 million in worldwide box office and audience He emerges in theaters to follow the adventures of street smart Detroit cop Axel Foley and his criminal investigations in California.

The plot of this fourth film is currently under wraps and there is no release date yet.
