One of the most famous and legendary operations of World War II was that called Fortitude. A huge disinformation company designed to fool the Nazis about the true plans and objectives of their enemies’ landings, led by the great Patton, saw the Allies reproducing entire armies, including tanks and planes, in dummy and often inflatable versions.

History well learned, Ukraine appears to be serving up an amazing meal to its Russian invader in these ancient pots. According to the Washington Post, which quotes US and Ukrainian officials, the armies of Kiev have deployed fake HIMARS wooden artillery systems on the battlefields to lure the enemy and attract their missiles.

The American daily, which was able to see photos of the dummy rocket launchers, explains that it is very difficult to distinguish them from the real weapons sent by the United States or Canada, which have become obsessed with the Russian armies using them now abuse from long distances.

“When a Russian surveillance drone finds a HIMARS, it’s like a VIP target,” laughs a Ukrainian official. The tactic seems to be working: from the first few weeks and in a context where precision missiles are lacking on the Russian side, a dozen precious calibres would have come along to crash into these very large wooden toys.
