Marie-Pier Houle will meet a former world champion at the Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM) gala on December 1st at the Place Bell in Laval, joining a boxing card that will feature Kim Clavel.

Houle (7-0-1, 2 KOs) meets Manitoba’s Olivia Gerula (19-19-3, 3 KOs) in a scheduled eight round match. The 43-year-old Manitoban was the 2009 and 2010 WBC champion (in the super featherweight category). She benefits from an experience of 10 world championship fights. Gerula also surprised world contender Logan Holler (9-2-1, 3 KOs) by unanimous decision in October.

“This fight comes at the right time in my career,” Houle said in a Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM) press release issued on Tuesday. I just broke the world rankings and a win could put me a lot closer to a possible welterweight championship fight.”
GYM has also confirmed that Olympian Caroline Veyre (1-0) will be taking on Puerto Vallarta’s Estefania Gonzalez Franco (3-5) in the featherweight division. This will be Franco’s second fight in Quebec.
Meanwhile, former Canada national team member Eric Basran (2-0, 1 KO) from Vancouver meets Juan Carlos Ramirez Garcia (4-2) from Mexico City
In the middleweight division, Montreal’s Derek Pomerleau (3-0, 2 KOs) meets Gustavo Magana Rodriguez (3-1, 1, 1 KO) from Guadalajara.
WBC Continental Americas Champion Mazlum Akdeniz (17-0, 8 KOs) meets American Samuel “Tsunami” Teah (18-4-1, 8 KOs).
Remember that the evening’s main event will feature two world champions, including a Quebecer, who will attempt to unify their belts. WBC World Champion Kim Clavel (16-0, 3 KOs) meets WBA Champion Mexico City Yesica Nery Plata (28-2, 3 KOs).
