The French coach Hervé Renard, an important figure in the recent history of African football, is back in Africa after his stint as coach of the national teams of Zambia, Angola, Ivory Coast and Morocco to celebrate this new African Cup of Nations, which takes place on opens this Saturday evening in Abidjan. In an interview with beIN Sports, he made no secret of his joy at returning to a country and a continent that he knows perfectly. As a reminder, the current Les Bleues coach won the trophy that millions of African fans dream of twice, in 2012 with Zambia and in 2015 with Ivory Coast:

“It's great, I haven't experienced this brand new stadium before. We were there for a grand opening ceremony like in Ivory Coast. This Africa Cup will be a complete success and I wish them to go as far as possible. It will be magical, we could see it on the road leading to the stadium. They waited for the bus and stayed for two hours before the bus passed. It will be magical now. We have to hope that Ivory Coast performs well. I think everything will go well for Jean-Louis Gasset, so we keep our fingers crossed for them. And let the party continue!”
