Cheryl Burke gets custody of French bulldog after finalizing divorce from Matthew Lawrence

Cheryl Burke has reportedly won custody of her French bulldog, Ysabella, ending her ugly divorce from ex-husband Matthew Lawrence.

The 38-year-old Dancing with the Stars pro stated in October that the pair “would go to court,” but it appears the 42-year-old child star has instead relinquished his rights to the Frenchie.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Cheryl has been granted full ownership of Ysabella, allowing Lawrence to focus on his new relationship with TLC’s Chilli.

Lawrence – whose most memorable role is as the teenage son of Robin Williams in 1993’s Mrs. Doubtfire – has agreed to relinquish “all documents/data relating to Ysabella,” according to TMZ.

He has also agreed to relinquish the title of “pet parent” for Ysabella’s microchipped service Home Again.

Mathew is already in a new relationship with TLC’s Chilli – née Rozonda Thomas, 51.

A rep for the No Scrubs singer told TMZ earlier this month that she and Lawrence entered an “exclusive relationship” as the holiday season began.

The couple officially took to Instagram in late December and posted a video of them dancing to Take on Me.

Cheryl initially filed for divorce from Mathew on February 18, saying the couple split on January 7, 2022.

In September, Burke and Lawrence agreed to split their two properties and waive spousal support on both sides, as stipulated in their prenuptial agreement.

Lawrence and Burke first met in 2006 when his brother Joey Lawrence, 46, attended Dancing with the Stars.

The tumultuous couple dated for a year, split, and then rekindled their relationship in 2017 – the following year they announced their engagement and wed in 2019.

Cheryl said on her iHeart podcast Burke in the Game in October that she and Mathew were destined to go to court over custody of Ysabella.

“I’m still very hurt by the whole situation,” the San Francisco-born beauty said at the time.

Cheryl added that while their divorce was finalizing, “It’s still not over because we might have to go to court — well, we’re going to go to court, unless.” [Lawrence] suddenly retrieves it.’

“That’s my dog,” Burke explained. “Ysabella is my daughter – I’m a dog mom and that’s it. I couldn’t even imagine my life – I mean, I could just cry right now – but I couldn’t imagine my life without her.

Burke opened up about her state of mind amid the bitter breakup in March last year and posted a statement on Instagram.

She began, “I’ve realized that whenever I’m at a point in my life where I’m trying to process major emotions, the best thing I can do is spend some alone time — other than being with myself [my dog] Ysa, of course, but I really feel like she’s a part of me, so she doesn’t count.”

“To be honest,” Cheryl admitted, “actually feeling my feelings is new to me.”

Burke went on to say that she’s “spent her whole life numbing her feelings up to this point,” and she’s “learning that really living through them is MUCH harder.”

She added, “I think all of this means that the best thing for me was to really experience my feelings, whatever they might be, to be alone for a few days. I would really encourage everyone else out there to try and not feel guilty about needing that space.
