Paraguay recorded a rebound in tourist arrivals in 2022

Of the total revenue received, 968,930 were migrants, the company explained, which also highlighted the growth in the sector’s revenue from one period to another, from $84 million $374,556 to $455 million $387,414 at the end of last December.

With that 440 percent increase, tourism became one of the economy’s top exports, about 1.11 of gross domestic product, according to the text, titled “Paraguay Inbound Tourism Report 2022.”

In terms of visitor nationality, the top three were: Argentina, with 75.94 percent of the total; followed by the Brazilian at 9.39 and the American at 2.12.

The latter described the document as outstanding, since third place has always been contested by Uruguay, Bolivia and Germany since 2016.

Tourists came mainly by land (80 percent), while air and river followed with 12 and 7, respectively.

Puerto Falcón, in the Department of Presidente Hayes, attracted attention as the place or immigration post with the highest number of arrivals (41 percent of tourists).

Then there is the international bridge San Roque González de Santa Cruz (22), located in the department of Itapúa; and Silvio Pettirossi International Airport (12).

The number of foreign visitors to this South American nation has all but collapsed since 2020, when authorities imposed hygiene and movement restrictions to prevent the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes Covid-19.

Industry experts speak of a wide and varied Paraguayan offer for visitors, especially due to its natural landscapes, streams, waterfalls, mountains and country roads suitable for activities such as adventure tourism, biking, rappelling and hiking.
