The Ontario Provincial Police Service confirmed it arrested Melisa Rancourt last Sunday evening following an incident at an arena in the town of Espanola.

The 50-year-old is now charged with bodily harm, threats of death or bodily harm and disturbing the peace. She is scheduled to appear in court on March 4.

The Espanola Minor Hockey program's website lists Rancourt as an assistant coach for the Espanola Screaming Eagles. She has worked for the Greater Sudbury Police Service since 2018. Her employer said she was off duty at the time of the alleged offenses and that she was suspended with pay while an internal investigation was carried out.
