Comedian Bill Murray Loses $186,000 to Hacker – Cryptopolitan

American comedian Bill Murray has revealed that hackers breached his wallet and stole more than $180,000 worth of Ethereum. According to the full information, the actor recently held an NFT auction where most of the refunded funds were in the said wallet. The statement revealed that the hacker dumped 90% of all money in the wallet, leaving just a little over $500 after the fact.

Bill Murray lost 119 Ethereum

According to multiple news sources, Bill Murray revealed that at the time of the theft, all Ethereum in the wallet was slightly above 119. The statement from the comedian’s team noted that the actor noticed the change in the balance in the wallet around 7 a.m. yesterday. In data from DappRadar, the wallet reportedly contained the funds, including several NFTs, owned by the actor. Aside from Ethereum, a large part of its portfolio was decimated in the wake of the attack. New activity tracked on the wallet shows the comedian’s team was able to remove about 10 other NFTs from Bill Murray’s wallet after it was compromised.

The actor is working with law enforcement to recover the fortune

The charity, owned and managed by Bill Murray himself, has auctioned off a collection of his Bill Murray 1000 NFT. The collection was hosted on Coinbase, with the platform’s marketplace helping the comedian sell the asset. The identity of the hacker is still unknown as on-chain data showed the stolen assets were sent to a crypto exchange. The funds raised at the auction have already been earmarked for a donation to the Chivas Charity.

However, new information has established that the second-highest bidder in the auction announced a donation of more than 120 Ethereum, which was sent to the said charity. The report doesn’t yet cover how the malicious actor was able to break into and steal the funds from the comedian’s wallet. However, his team has contacted the police and found that they are working hand-in-hand with her to uncover the bad actor’s identity.

Aside from that, it also talks to Chainalysis, an on-chain analytics company, to help them uncover the stolen funds. Bill Murray is one in a long list of high-profile digital asset owners who have been hit by an attack in recent weeks. Fellow actor Seth Green saw his wallet broken into as hackers stole his BAYC NFT. He has since received the NFT after paying the hacker some cash.
