The authorities of Cyprus rescued this Wednesday about 60 migrants who were floating aboard a small wooden boat in the waters of the Mediterranean off the southeast coast of the island and who had left Lebanon six days ago. As the Cyprus Maritime Rescue Center detailed in a statement, the ship was spotted by a merchant ship sailing in the area, prompting Nicosia to mobilize port and maritime police. Port officials rescued all migrants on board from the boat and brought them to shore. There, authorities discovered that three minors and one adult were unconscious, while three other people had broken lower extremities. “The crew of the coast guard vessel immediately provided cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid,” the Cyprus Maritime Rescue Center said, adding that the injured were taken to hospital.
