Cândida was created specifically for Maria Fernanda Cândido in the first phase of Renascer. The farmer, who did not exist in the original version, was responsible for making José Inocêncio (Humberto Carrão) one of the largest cocoa producers in southern Bahia. However, she suffered the same fate as her namesake in Land and Paixão (2023): she left the scene much earlier than the audience would have liked.
Bruno Luperi invited the actress to participate in the first chapter as a tribute to her career alongside his grandfather Benedito Ruy Barbosa. Maria Fernanda's first prominent role on television was as the Italian Paola, who stole the show in Terra Nostra (1999).
In fact, Cândida was the character viewers searched for most on Google. However, she was no longer scheduled to appear on Globo's nine o'clock soap opera.
Strangely, she inherited the curse from another Cândida, the one played by Susana Vieira in Terra e Paixão. Madame was also very popular with the audience, but died in the first few weeks.
The veteran complained about the early exit in an interview with Extra. “I miss the clothes, the accent, the entire technical team and management. I also miss my red lipstick and my silver hair. And to be completely honest, I didn’t like dying at all,” she said.
Firmino in the first version of Renascer
Colonel Firmino (Enrique Diaz) was also commissioned by Luperi, who expanded the first phase of the remake. He was only mentioned by the other characters in the 1993 version.
Rachid also got an update, as Gabriel Sater will hand over the baton to his father from the second phase. The Turk was originally played by just one actor, Luís Carlos Arutin (19331996).
