Elvis Merzlikins could leave the Blue Jackets

One trade could involve Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Elvis Merzlikins, who apparently no longer wants to watch games on the bench.

The Latvian saw Daniil Tarasov take the pole in front of the organization's goal after playing in his team's last three games. Head coach Pascal Vincent is also relying on Spencer Martin as a goalkeeper and just like in Montreal, where everyone is talking about the Canadiens' menage a trois, rumors of a goalkeeper exchange are likely to circulate more strongly.

Merzlikins has been inactive since December 29th and has made his intentions clear, even if he hasn't specifically requested a change of scenery from management. According to website journalist Aaron Portzline of The Athletic, the two parties involved agreed to a new scenario after maintaining a record of 7-8-6, an efficiency percentage of 0.907 and a goals-against average of 3.25 this season.

“I love Columbus, I love these guys and I have developed here. On the other hand, I am not a replacement,” he explained.

The 29-year-old is in the second season of a five-year, $27 million contract. The pact contains a no-trade clause that affects ten teams.

The Jackets, beaten in their last two games and are cellar champions in the Metropolitan Section of the National Hockey League, host the Seattle Kraken on Saturday.
