The Venice International Film Festival typically attracts Hollywood’s biggest stars, who flock to the city to promote their upcoming films.
However, due to the ongoing actors’ and writers’ strikes in the industry, many actors will not be able to attend the 80th anniversary event this year.
Hollywood has been at a standstill since July 17, as members of the SAG-AFTRA union joined the Writers Guild of America on strike over growing concerns about the use of artificial intelligence and streaming residuals.
According to Variety, a select list of films premiering in Venice have received interim exemptions from SAG-AFTRA because they are independent productions not produced by AMPTP members.
