EXPANSION: China's top political advisory body begins its annual meeting

BEIJING, March 4 (Xinhua) — The National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China's top political advisory body, began its annual meeting in Beijing on Monday.

The second session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee began in the Great Hall of the People, where more than 2,000 national political advisors gathered.

Party and state leaders Xi Jinping, Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi and Han Zheng took the podium.

During the meeting, the meeting agenda was reviewed and approved.

Wang Huning, Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, presented a report on the work of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee to the meeting.

Wang reviewed the work of the CPPCC over the past year and highlighted the new achievements achieved by the 14th National Committee of the CPPCC and its Standing Committee, as well as their contributions to the development of the cause of the Chinese Communist Party and the state.

The year 2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and is a crucial year for achieving the goals and tasks set in the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025), Wang said. It also marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the CPPCC, he added.

In 2024, the CPPCC will focus on advancing China's modernization, actively putting forward proposals, promoting broad consensus and gathering wisdom and strength for the country to achieve full-year economic and social development goals, Wang said .

According to a report on the management of political advisers' proposals since the previous session, a total of 5,621 proposals were submitted since the 2023 session, and of the 4,791 proposals accepted, 99.9 percent were processed with feedback. End
