In November 2022, when the deaths of the singer and four other people ended a year after her death, the report of THE TIME informed that Cenipa’s investigations were in the final phase, but that the agency has not yet had a date for presenting the results. “The investigation is in its final stages and will be completed in the shortest possible time, always depending on the complexity of each incident and also the need to identify the contributing factors,” the Air Force said in a statement.

Accident of Marília Mendonça

The singer, songwriter and instrumentalist from Goiás, who became known as the “Queen of Sofrência”, was only 26 years old and was at the peak of his career when the plane he was on crashed about three kilometers from Caratinga Airport, inland from Minas, where the landing was planned. Except for Marília, all four people died on the plane: producer Henrique Ribeiro, uncle and adviser to the singer Abicieli Silveira Dias Filho, pilot Geraldo Martins de Medeiros and the copilot of the plane Tarciso Pessoa Viana.

A year after the death of the singer and four other peoplesaid the Minas Gerais Civil Police (PCMG) in a report by THE TIME that the accident investigation should not be completed until the first quarter of 2023. At the time, the information in the report was confirmed by a source directly linked to the investigation being carried out by the Caratinga Civil Police in the Rio Doce region. “We are nearing completion. “We’re relying on some reports to rule out something with the plane before coming to a conclusion,” the source said.

The delay in completing the police investigation has been attributed to this Complexity of expert work performed on the plane wreck and analyzed the details of the flight. It is already known that shortly before the crash, the plane collided with highvoltage cables from a Cemig distribution tower. However, the lack of a black box, equipment that records flight data and crew conversations, slows detection of potential en route complications or mechanical failures.
