Fabricio Andrade clinches ONE league title after John Linekers corner

Fabricio Andrade clinches ONE league title after John Lineker’s corner stops fight in late rounds – MMA Fighting

After five long months, Fabricio Andrade finished what he had started.

Andrade clinched the ONE Bantamweight Championship with an electrifying performance over John Lineker in Friday night’s ONE Main Event on Prime Video 7, held at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. Andrade (9-2, 1 NC) repeatedly slammed and shook his fellow Brazilian with a barrage of piston-fast jabs and bodywork until Lineker’s corner mercifully stopped the fight en route to the final round.

“I have no words to explain what this means to me,” said an emotional Andrade through tears. “It’s just been such a long journey, so many hard things I’ve been through in my life with the dream of coming here and being world champion – and being able to change my life and my family’s, it’s incredible.”

Andrade and Lineker (35-10, 1 NC) previously met last October in a fight that Andrade won before landing an illegal groin knee at ONE on Prime Video 3 in the third round, ultimately resulting in a no contest led. Prior to the fight, Lineker was stripped of his ONE Championship bantamweight title after summarily losing 0.75 pounds in weight.

History repeated itself during much of Friday’s rematch. 25-year-old Andrade was always one step ahead of his 32-year-old opponent, beating Lineker with straight punches, mid-knees and hard counters. Andrade almost ended Lineker’s night early with a massive right hand that left the former champion on shaky legs by the end of the opening round. He then sent Lineker back into survival mode late in the fourth with another heavy volley.

While Lineker could occasionally find a home for his signature looping hooks, none of the power punches seemed to bother Andrade – although they earned his respect.

“Man, he came to fight,” Andrade said of Lineker. “The first fight he was scared. But this fight, it came to fight. You could see I did a lot of damage [on my face].”

The fight marked Lineker’s first loss since his UFC exit in 2019, while Andrade extended his own unbeaten streak to nine straight, including a seven-fight run in the ONE Championship.

In his post-fight interview, Andrade claimed his first title defense against Stephen Loman, the 27-year-old who upset ex-champ Bibiano Fernandes last November.
