The foldable smartphone market, while still expensive, could soon become more accessible with the launch of two new cheaper models: the Tecno Phantom V Fold and the ZTE Nubia Z60 Fold. These new alternatives could lead to lower prices in the foldable smartphone market.

A few years ago, the word “foldable” wasn’t associated with technology. It’s the buzzword in the tech world today, with a special mention for foldable smartphones. They’re everywhere, at least in shop windows, because when it comes to the average consumer’s pockets, that’s a different story.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 costs the equivalent of 1,599 euros, the Honor Magic Vs pays the same amount and the Google Pixel Fold demands the modest sum of 1,899 euros. It doesn’t exist at all.

There are two alternatives

But winds of change could be blowing in the foldable smartphone market. We spotted two newcomers to the field, the Tecno Phantom V Fold and the ZTE Nubia Z60 Fold. You do not know her? This is not surprising since these brands are not yet represented in France. But let me introduce them to you.

First off, the Tecno Phantom V Fold. This product from a brand very popular in Africa has a hinge that allows the smartphone to be folded without a gap, making the crease in the center of the folding screen much less visible. The 6.42-inch, 120 Hz secondary screen offers a resolution of 2,550 x 1,080 pixels. In short, it promises to bend without breaking.

The circular camera module on the back houses a 50 MP main camera, a 50 MP telephoto lens with dual zoom and a 13 MP ultra wide-angle camera. The base model with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB flash storage costs INR 89,999 (about 1,030 euros), while the top model with 12 GB or 512 GB of storage costs INR 99,999 (about 1,140 euros).

The Nubia Z60, on the other hand, hasn’t been officially announced yet, but we were able to get some information about it. This foldable smartphone would come with an unspecified Snapdragon 8 chipset, a 7.3-inch AMOLED screen, 12GB of RAM, and 256 or 512GB of storage. The battery should have a capacity of 5,000 mAh and can be quickly recharged with 100 watts. For those who like to live dangerously, wireless charging is also an option. We expect a price of around 1000 euros.

The foldable smartphone is not yet affordable for all budgets, but with the arrival of these new players on the market, prices could come down.
