“From 22 to 29 years old, I wasn’t feeling well,” admits Simon Gouache in the first minutes of the popular podcast, which deals with the complexes of various public figures.

Although he only started taking medication to treat his diagnosis of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) at age 29, he suffered from the condition's damaging symptoms for several years before finally seeking help because he no longer wanted to get up in the morning: “That was me. “When that happened, I started having panic attacks, losing touch with reality,” he says of his early twenties.

His daily discomfort affected not only his quality of life, but also his relationships with others. He explains :

“In the days when I couldn’t control my anxiety, I said terrible things: “It was stronger than me, I had to speak out””. It even caused him to lose some relationships.

“It was not conscious. Many years later, when I took control of my mental health and people reminded me of events, I said to myself, “That doesn't make sense.” I was, it's strange to say, so dead then that I didn't see how someone could be affected by something (…). “It wasn’t about hurting anyone,” he explains.

A difficult session as a teacher

His words affect not only his personal relationships, but also his professional ones, when he was a professor at the National School of Humor for a single session: “I don't think I ruined any career. But I was a humor school teacher during a session and hurt people.

Before the cohort that graduated in 2013 (Katherine Levac, David Beaucage, Sam Breton And Jay Du Temple), Simon Gouache says he didn't know where to stop his comments when he didn't like a number:

“There was a time in my life when I was so in my head that I didn't understand the impact my words could have on someone else.” And it was particularly passionate because it touched on his artistic field, which is very important to him is close to the heart.

“Have you been welcomed by management?” asked the co-host.

“I only did one session, so…” Gouache replied.

“Were you sent to the back?” the co-host concludes.

“That’s it,” answers Simon Gouache and nods.

He adds: “I know that in relation to me there was a student meeting with Louise, the director of the school, because the students did not want to work with me,” he concludes.

If Simon Gouache was unaffected by this decision at the time because he was “dead inside,” it was only later that he realized the magnitude of it all, after he began therapy and took medication for his anxiety, and as people became increasingly more so as a result and more became more comfortable for her to talk to him about her feelings.
