Fire at Grunewald explosion site: special vehicles advance

Special vehicles entered the fire area in Berlin’s Grunewald this morning. Among other things, armored vehicles, Bundeswehr tanks and firefighting robots were on display. They must help to explore the exclusion zone. The fire brigade had “almost everything that is available in Germany in terms of technology,” said spokesman Thomas Kirstein.

The day before, emergency services had drawn a blockade circle of about 1,000 meters around the blast site where the fire started. The first extinguishing work was carried out inside the safety zone late Thursday afternoon. Task forces had irrigated adjacent forested areas to make it difficult to spread the flames.
